Special Considerations for Reptiles

When it comes to reptiles, it's important to first understand which animals are protected by the law and which are available to keep as pets. As with all animals, some may be dangerous to keep in your home and require special permits that usually only are given to zoos or fauna parks.
Meeting All of Your Pet's Unique Needs

Environments and Habitats

Non-protective native reptiles require special care as pets. Animals such as snakes, frogs, tortoises and lizards need environments that are designed to meet their special needs. To get the right living space for your reptiles, consider monitoring and balancing:
• Humidity
• Ventilation
• Lighting
• Space
• Water
• Temperatures (heat lamps)

Food and Water for Reptiles

Snakes can be accustomed to fresh mice or chicken. Tortoises have a meat-based diet, but require calcium to ensure optimal health. Lizards are omnivores but need supplements. Call us for the right nutritional help to ensure your pets have the nutrition they need.

Caring for Your Reptiles

Reptiles require more work than other common household pets and are generally shy creatures, so handling should be limited. Health issues can arise due to incorrect temperatures, diet, environment and humidity, and can be very serious. Call our team for help if you notice problems.
