We're All About Cat Care

Due to their curious and playful nature, cats are a common pet choice for many families throughout Australia. But with any pet, there's always specific aspects to their care that must be considered. Thankfully, our team at Wakeley Veterinary Hospital is here to help provide you with the information and advice you need to take care of your cat.

General Cat Information

Cats have an average life span of around 15 to 20 years and can either be classified as indoor or outdoor pets. Indoor cats (cats kept inside or limited to an enclosure) generally live longer than outdoor cats and often lead much healthier lives. Determine whether you wish your cat to stay inside or be allowed to roam the neighbourhoods when choosing your pet.
Helping Keep Your Pet Healthy and Comfortable

Cat Activity and Play

Ensure your cat has adequate opportunities for exercise and play by investing in scratching posts, cat gyms and toys. These items will help to prevent unwanted scratching to your furniture due to boredom and will help create a more enriching environment for your pet.

Grooming Your Cat

Short-haired cats are able to groom themselves and generally only need their owner's assistance during moulting time. Long-haired cats, however, require daily grooming to help prevent hairballs. Brush them each day to remove excess hair and ensure a healthier coat.

Feeding Your Cat

Because most cats are grazers, we recommend feeding your pets small amounts of food often and keeping a fresh bowl of water available at all times. Discuss your cat's unique nutritional needs with our team to find out which cat food is best for your feline friend.
