What Are Radiographs?

Radiographs (or X-rays) are a well-known medical tool for human medicine, and they work very well with pets and animals as well. If your pet has an injury or disease in their bones, abdomen or chest area, radiographs will be an excellent method for closer examination and help our staff provide a better diagnosis.

How Radiographs Work

X-rays move through the skin and soft tissue much more easily than they do bone, so a radiograph will clearly show the shape and state of bones inside of your pet without the need for any sort of invasive surgery or other observation. This examination will occur after a normal physical examination when more information is needed.

When X-Rays May Be Needed

If your pet shows symptoms that could hint at an unseen bone condition or some other issue that would show up on an X-ray, your veterinarian may recommend getting a radiograph done. Your pet will be sedated for the X-ray in order to make sure they hold the right position without hurting themselves. Your veterinarian will be able to explain the results of the radiograph to you after it is completed.
